Cruise: My mate Becks will be in 2014 World Cup

Cruise he kidding ... Tom believes David Beckham can still play for England despite his age

ODDBALL movie idol TOM CRUISE reckons his pal DAVID BECKHAM will land a starring role in the NEXT World Cup - when he will be pushing 40.

The Top Gun legend and Scientology cult follower said he was sorry 35-year-old Becks would miss this summer's tournament because of an achilles tendon injury.
But he predicted the former Manchester United hero will do a Mission Impossible and pull on a No7 England shirt again to play in Brazil in 2014 - at the ripe old age of 39.
Tom, who became great mates with Becks after the midfielder signed for LA Galaxy, said: "I wish he was playing in the World Cup this year. But he will be back for the next one, you know."

Beckham is already England's oldest outfield player and the odds are stacked against him being involved in the next big tournament, Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.
A return to international duty by him would not break any records, however.
Blackpool legend STANLEY MATTHEWS became the oldest player ever capped for England when he played against Denmark in 1957 aged 42 years, 103 days.
New York-born Tom, 47, said he still wished Becks was in the England team despite their opening opponents being his own country, the USA.
And he dismissed suggestions that he might be involved in making a film about his former England captain pal. He smiled and said: "You know what, I didn't hear that one."
When Beckham and wife VICTORIA moved to LA they chose a home just five minutes from Tom's in Beverly Hills.
