Beyonce Denies Performing For Dictator

Earlier this week, the New York Post reported that Beyonce cashed in big by performing for a “terror-backing Libyan dictator” on New Year’s Eve.

The party held in honor of the Gaddafi family drew criticism from American press due to the family's known history of violence and dictatorship. Beyonce’s camp just released a statement addressing the backlash.

"The party in St. Bart's on New Year's Eve, with Beyonce in performance, was hosted by Muatsim-Billah Gaddafi, not his brother Moutassim Bilal "Hannibal" Gaddafi, as reported in the press,” the statement reads. “Her agents and management firm made the decision to confirm the private performance. The annual party had a long history of booking internationally known artists both American and foreign for events around the world, including Cannes."

While past performances have included American recording artists like Timbaland and Mariah Carey, this year's guests included singer Usher, former BET CEO Bob Johnson, actress Lindsay Lohan, and music vets Russell Simmons, Kevin Liles, and L.A. Reid.

In light of all of this "controversy," Russell Simmons called the media into question for not calling out "the famous CEOs who were at the event and invested with the family and in the country instead of demonizing the evening's entertainment."
