Kanye Finally Speaks on "We Were Once a Fairytale" Short Film

Who said Kanye was having a bad year? First, the Grammy Award winner’s rookie debut, “College Dropout” was dubbed “Album of the Decade” by Entertainment Weekly, and now 'Ye’s internet-released short film, “We Were Once a Fairytale” has snatched a mention for one of 2009’s “Top Music Videos.”

The accolade, which was handed out by Pitchfork.com, a Chicago-based internet music publication, ignited a humble response from the boisterous MC via his KanyeUniversity.com blog. In all caps of course, Yeezy said of the Spike Jonze-directed clip: “SPIKE IS A GENIUS AND HE BROUGHT THE BEST OUT OF ME. HE CALLED IN A LOT A FAVORS AND WE DID THIS FILM FOR UNDER 50GS. THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY INVOLVED.”

“THIS WAS THEEE MOST IN YOUR FACE CONCEPT BUT SPIKE MADE ME LOOK LIKE A HURT CHILD INSTEAD OF AN OUTRAGEOUS ASSHOLE," Yeezy continued. "WHEN EVERYONE GOES BIG, GO SMALL. WHEN EVERYONE GOES CLEAN, GO DIRTY. WHEN EVERYBODY PUTS ON THE CRAZIEST OUTFITS EVER, PUT ON YOUR FAVORITE OLD BAND OF OUTSIDERS DINNER JACKET AND PULL A MONSTER OUT OF YOUR SOUL. I WISH I COULD SAY THAT MONSTER WAS TRULY DEAD BUT I THINK HE'LL BE BACK TO LIFE SITTING ON MY SHOULDER WHEN I GET BACK IN THE STUDIO.”

Only weeks after Kanye's VMA controversy, "We Were Once a Fairytale" was released to much criticism. While Jonze spoke on the short back in October, this marks the first time Yeezy has addressed the film.
