Bitter bust-up ... Sir Elton John and
his mum in much happier times
his mum in much happier times
THE mother of SIR ELTON JOHN has told of her anguish over a three-year rift with the pop superstar.
Sheila Farebrother, 86, said: "He has cut me off completely. It happened three years ago this June. He has had nothing to do with me since then."I don't want to go into what caused it. It is a painful subject. My son cut me out of his life for good."
Pals say Sheila made a comment that offended Sir Elton's partner DAVID FURNISH. A source said film producer David "went ballistic".
Joy ... Sir Elton John, David Furnish and Zachary
But the relationship soured so much that last year Sir Elton, 64, even stayed away from the funeral of stepfather Fred Farebrother, 88.
Sheila sold her £1million home on the River Thames, just two miles from her son's £7.5million mansion in Old Windsor, and moved 60 miles to a seaside bungalow in Littlehampton, West Sussex.
She also sold a treasure trove of her son's memorabilia for £28,820.
More than 200 items went under the hammer from more than 40 years of touring. But asked it the auction was related to their rift, Sheila insisted: "That has nothing to do with it. I moved into a smaller place and had nowhere to keep all that stuff."
Sheila did not even know her son had become a dad on Christmas Day when Zachary, the baby Sir Elton and David, 48, adopted from a surrogate mum, was born in California.
And she added: "I have no particular interest really. You will have to ask them about that."
Sheila, who encouraged her son's musical ability as a child, divorced his RAF officer father Stanley Dwight when the singer was 15.
Stepdad Fred doted on the lad and nicknamed him "Derf" - his own name backwards.
Sheila confirmed that the multi-millionaire singer continues to look after her financially, despite their bitter bust-up.
Asked to comment on the falling out, she said: "I'd rather not. I don't want to start mudslinging. It was very painful.
"But I've got a lot of good friends so I don't have to be bothered with it all."
A spokesman for Sir Elton said: "I have never had a conversation with him about whether he talks to his mother. She is a lovely lady but she is 86 and she is frail and old."
