Ja Rule to Begin Serving Jail Time in June

A judge agrees to push back the rapper's surrender date so that he can finish his album and settle his IRS bill.

Ja Rule has got three more months of freedom. After an appearance in Manhattan Supreme Court in New York yesterday (March 9), Jeffrey “Ja Rule” Atkins was able to buy himself some more time to finish a few things before he has to report to prison.
According to the New York Post, Justice Richard Carruthers agreed to push back Ja’s surrender date until June 8, when he will begin serving out his two-year sentence. Stacy Richmond, the attorney for Ja Rule, asked for more time so that Ja Rule could finish recording his next album, The Renaissance Project, and also settle his bill with Uncle Sam. “We want to finish the album, and there’s also a tax issue,” she said.
Ja Rule was arrested back in 2007 after being pulled over for speeding. Police found a loaded semiautomatic handgun in the vehicle, and he later plead guilty to charges stemming from the arrest. Lil Wayne was arrested in a separate incident that same night on weapons charges as well, but he was only sentenced to eight months in a New York prison. Wayne has already served his time.
