Michael Jackson's epic legacy lives in music, film, dance and just about every other form of art. Now, he is immortalized in a video game.
For you MJ gurus, you might remember Michael Jackson's "Moonwalker" back in 1989 on Sega Genesis. In 2010, there is "Michael Jackson: The Experience," a tap game for the Nintendo DS and PSP or an interactive dance game for Wii, XBox 360 or Playstation.
Having played the Nintendo DS version, the rhythm-based gameplay is addictive for anyone who enjoys touch-based games. MJ dances around the screen and with each tap to the beat you get a higher score. The more consecutive correct taps you complete, you are honored with crowns which unlock songs and prizes. Oh, and parents, don't worry; all of MJ's moves are kid-friendly. There is no crotch-grabbing!
It's certainly about the music and the Nintendo DS version comes with 12 classic Jackson songs like "Billie Jean," "Another Part of Me," "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" and "Smooth Criminal." The PSP version includes 17 songs while the Wii has 20.
You can play on three settings: easy, medium and hard. The beat can be tricky but just when you think you've mastered it, the next level makes you step up your game. You are challenged but not to the point where the game is frustratingly impossible.
The graphics are nothing groundbreaking, but in comparison to other touch-based games on Nintendo DS, "Michael Jackson: The Experience" is one of the best. Clearly, the experience on Wii or Xbox 360 would only be heightened, allowing the player to follow MJ's groundbreaking dance moves.
Overall, "Michael Jackson: The Experience" is an excellent addition to your video game collection.
