Race rap

50cent
Hip hop superstar ... 50 Cent

A YOB rap fan was fined yesterday for racially abusing a black woman - as he sang along to a 50 Cent song.

Drunken lout Cameron Gibson, 16, left Catherine Souter stunned when he yelled "n****r and Rasta man" from the back of a car in Thurso, Caithness.
Gibson was looking straight at her, Wick Sheriff Court was told. Prosecutor David Barclay said: "She was distressed and took the view that the comments were directed at her ethnic background."
Ms Souter - who had simply been passing by the motor - contacted the police. The car was then traced and Gibson was questioned.
Mr Barclay added: "He indicated he'd used what may be referred to as racist language, but insisted he didn't intend it to be offensive to anyone.
"He said he was singing along to a rap music CD and that the lyrics were along the lines of the comments he was making. He conceded that, with others around to hear, this type of language was inappropriate."
Mr Barclay said he was unfamiliar with 50 Cent - but added the CD playing in the car contained tracks with racially explicit lyrics.
Gibson, a casual farm labourer, of Wick, admitted racially aggravated breach of the peace in Thurso on April 28.
Defence solicitor Neil Wilson said the first offender was drunk and had not meant to cause offence to Ms Souter.
Fining Gibson £225, Sheriff Andrew Berry said: "Your behaviour was disgraceful and distressing enough for this lady to contact police."
He added: "What kind of music you were listening to, I dread to think. But if you come to court for anything remotely similar to this in the future, you will be in serious trouble."
Last night Cameron's mum insisted her son was not a racist. The mum, who asked not to be named, said: "He's into that music. If it's offensive it shouldn't be out."
US rapper 50 Cent shot to fame with 2003 album Get Rich Or Die Tryin', which sold 15million copies.
