Wanted ... Snoop Dogg
NOEL GALLAGHER'S going to love this...
Glastonbury boss MICHAEL EAVIS is working hard to bag rapper SNOOP DOGG for this year's 40th anniversary festival.
The controversial hip-hop star has just been allowed to apply for a UK visa again following a four-year ban - and Glasto is keen to get him on the bill.
But it feels like a bad case of deja vu.
Hip-hop and Glastonbury go together like fruit cake and cheese.
There are a few folk who like the combination, but most people aren't convinced.
Cast your minds back two years. The announcement that rapper JAY-Z was going to be headlining the main Pyramid Stage went down like a sack of Eavis's cow dung with regular Glasto-goers. And now history is repeating itself.
Michael has confirmed that his daughter Emily - who organises the festival with him - wants Snoop on the bill. It was her idea to book Jay-Z.
He explained: "She's a bright girl and she is very keen on Snoop Dogg doing the show, so we want him.
Tussle
"Her real claim to fame is booking Jay-Z. She came up with the idea, so I phoned his manager. At the end of a 40-minute chat he said Jay-Z would do the show, and the rest is history."
Snoop, who famously rapped on Dr Dre's hit Nuthin' But A G Thang, has not entered the UK since 2006.
Back then he was cautioned by police at Heathrow following a tussle over entry to the British Airways first-class lounge.
He had his visa taken away a year later.
Last month the ruling was overturned and he is now allowed to apply for entry again.
Booking Jay-Z got NOEL GALLAGHER's back up. The OASIS legend said at the time: "I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance.
"I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong."
I was against Jay-Z too initially. But he ended up playing a brilliant set and even Noel came round to the idea.
But Snoop, as much as I think he is ace, is not in the same class.
I saw him play Scotland's T In The Park festival in 2005 and his set was lost in the fug of cannabis smoke.
His, not mine.
If he's on the bill, it surely couldn't be a headlining set. And there are a few things Snoop would have to change if he wants to enjoy a smooth Glasto.
For a start there's no sippin' on Gin & Juice - only pear cider...
