APPLE finally took the wraps off their most anticipated product ever last night - a powerful touchscreen computer called the iPad.
The tablet PC looks like a large iPhone and can be used to watch films, store photos and browse the web.
He said: "What this device does is extraordinary. It is the best browsing experience you have ever had."
It has been designed for browsing the internet, checking emails, viewing photos, watching videos, playing music and games and reading eBooks.
The high quality screen can be flipped to display content vertically or horizontally and features a touchscreen keyboard with large buttons for easy typing, which Jobs promised would be highly responsive.
The machine will also come with the iTunes store built in allowing owners to listen to music and download it directly to the memory.
And the high-definition display will be perfect for streaming videos from YouTube over its wireless internet connection or viewing hit movies downloaded from iTunes itself.
At just half an inch thin, the iPad weighs just over half a kilogramme (1.5lbs).
Jobs also claimed to have improved battery life on the new machine, saying: "We've been able to achieve 10 hours of battery life - I could fly from San Francisco to Tokyo and watch video the whole way on one charge."
He also claimed it will last a month on standby.
Like the iPhone and touch, the iPad will also run the tens of thousands of applications in Apple's App Store, allowing users to play games and check social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
Popular apps like Brushes, which allows you to paint pictures as if you were using real watercolours or oils, has also been upgraded for the larger screen.
Apple have also created the new iBook Store allowing thousands of novels from top publishers like Harper Collins to be bought and read on the device, all displayed on a virtual bookshelf.
It follows moves by the likes of Amazon, Sony, Samsung and British firm Cool-er in making eBook readers but until now these had come with black and white screens.
But Jobs conceded: "Amazon has done a great job of pioneering this... we're going to stand on their shoulders for this."
Kat Hannaford of gadget site Gizmodo.com said: "It looks like most people expected but the biggest shock is that it can be used as a normal laptop, and typed on with both hands, instead of using thumbs like you would with an iPhone.
"The operating system isn't too much of a step away from the iPhone's, so it will feel very familiar to users.
"But the biggest excitement will be around the new apps bred for the platform, which should prove more innovative than anything we've seen on the iPhone before."
Stuart Miles, editor of Pocket-Lint.com, added: "This is an iPod Touch XL. It looks shiny, and has plenty of potential, and seems to be the device that will take Apple into every industry going."
Jobs also announced some models would have a built-in 3G connection for an always-on internet signal like a mobile phone.
A 16GB iPad will cost £308 for a 16GB iPad, £370 for the 32GB and $494 for 64GB. 3G models are an extra $80.
The device is expected to be available in the UK by June.
