A PRETTY radio station receptionist was left mutilated and dying just yards from her child minder's front door.
Passers-by found tragic mum-of-two Geeta Aulakh slumped on the ground with a fatal head injury and one of her hands severed in Greenford, West London.
She was rushed to Charing Cross Hospital at 7pm last night but died four hours later.
Pals spoke of their horror as cops launched a murder probe.
Mrs Aulakh was on her way to pick up her children from child minder Safeen Arif when she was attacked.
'Happy'
The couple had been separated for a year and she had custody of their two sons, aged eight and nine.
Mrs Aulakh's friend and colleague Seema Sidha, 31, walked home with her from the offices of Sunrise Radio, where they both worked, last night.
She described the mother-of-two as "a very happy person".
Devastated Ms Sidha, a news producer, said: "I was with her last night. We walked home together before I caught the train.
"She said she was going to pick her children up from the child minder's.
"That is the last time I saw her. I believe it happened half-an-hour later.
"That was her normal routine. She would drop her kids off in the morning and pick them up after work. She was a very helpful, very happy person, always smiling.
"All of us are very confused and very surprised to hear the news of what happened.
"Why someone would do this to her I have no idea. It is something you never expect to report about your colleague."
She added: "Her youngest son has just turned eight and she told me she surprised him and took him out to celebrate. I spoke to the child minder and she said she was waiting for her.
"She texted her and phoned her, and then she realised there were police outside her house. That is how she found out.
"The kids are in social care at the moment before being returned to the family."
She added that British-born Mrs Aulakh was separated from her India-born husband who lives in the area. She had recently returned from the Punjab area of India where she had attended a cousin's wedding. Mrs Aulakh's devastated mother was too upset to speak today.
Mrs Shinh, who would not give her first name, said: "We cannot come to terms with what has happened. We are too upset to speak right now."
A family member at the home in Southall, West London, added: "This has been a huge shock and we are all extremely upset. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time."
