Caught Live: Rihanna

Special guest ... Rihanna is joined on stage by Jay-Z

THERE aren't many crowds who hurl love at a singer rather than disgruntled jeers and bottles after a set spanning just 45 minutes.
That said, Rihanna isn't your everyday artist.

For a start, she's been off duty for the best part of nine months nursing the fall-out from her vicious assault at the hands of ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.

Secondly, she did what all decent comeback artists do best and thrashed out an adrenaline-fuelled, hit-crammed medley that forced fans to forget all about the nightmare that was 2009.

Old favourites Don't Stop The Music, Disturbia and Umbrella triggered the loudest response of the short-lived evening - albeit one that successfully propelled Rihanna back to the forefront of contemporary music.

But the most raucous cheers were reserved for surprise guest, her rap behemoth boss Jay-Z, who demonstrated his masterful ability to get the crowd leaping off its toes for their storming rendition of Run This Town.

Oddly, Rihanna appeared most comfortable singing - and gyrating - along to new tracks Russian Roulette and Hard at the Brixton Academy launch of the new Nokia X6 phone.

Make no mistake, this is clearly a girl firmly fixated on the future.
