WESLEY Snipes is off to jail!

Riding on Lindsay Lohan's coat tails, Snipes becomes the next celeb to let fame and fortune land him in the slammer.
He handled the news with a little bit more grace than Lohan, whose angry Twitter rants and tearful public tantrums have done nothing to help reduce her 90 day sentence.
Snipes on the other hand has accepted his three-year sentence after losing an appeal against the term.
Fortunately for Wes and Li-Lo, they will be among friends in the celebrity jailbird hall of shame.
Here's a look at some of the stories that have kept us en-detained over the years.

Pete Doherty

Unsurprisingly, Pete's offence is drugs related.
In 2008 the Babyshambles singer received a 14-week sentence for not being able to steer clear of heroine after he was arrested for possession of the drug some months before.

Paris Hilton

Socialite Paris was sentenced in 2007 to 45 days for driving under the influence.
Considering the heirhead went to jail on a Sunday night and left early the following Thursday morning, she really only served three days, but has been given credit for serving a whopping five!

Michelle Rodriguez

The Fast and the Furious star was sentenced to 6 months in 2007 for ignoring her punishment for a drink-drive charge. She also wins the prize for grumpiest celebrity mugshot.

Lil' Kim

Lil' Kim earned a year and a day in prison in 2005 for lying to the courts about a friend's involvement in a shooting. The truth hurts!

Robert Downey Jr.

The Iron Man star isn't quite the superhero in his private life.
He was arrested in 1996 after police pulled his car over and found a stash of heroine, cocaine and a pistol.
The courts gave him several chances to prove he could stay clean, but alas, they drugs proved too tempting.
He earned himself a six-month sentence, most of which was spent in rehab.

Tommy Lee

Sex, drugs and alcohol are part of everyday life for rockers like Tommy.
Physical assault though, is never OK. In 1998 Tommy served six months for kicking his wife Pamela Anderson. He then got a further 30 days for attacking a security guard at one of his concerts.

Christian Slater

Most people will remember Slater as the sexy airforce pilot in Broken Arrow, but in real life he is much more like the hilarious felon from True Romance.
Christian has been in trouble with the law several times and usually for pretty bizarre reasons. In 1989, for example, he was involved in a drunken car chase, which ended only when he crashed into a telephone pole, kicked a policeman and failed in his attempt to flee over a fence.
In 1998 he spent 90 days in jail for biting a police officer in the stomach. Most recently, in 2005, he was arrested for slapping a woman on the bottom on the streets of Manhattan.

T.I.

Rapper T.I. has only just been released after having been sentenced to a year and a day for possession of an unregistered machine gun.
The question of why celebrities need machine guns remains a mystery...

Lil' Wayne
What is it with rappers and firearms? Lil' Wayne was trying to keep up his tough boy image by storing a semi-automatic on his tour bus.
Unfortunately for him, the police got wind of it and gave him a good telling off.
After putting off his one-year sentence to fix the jewels glued to his teeth, he is finally serving the term this year.
We hope his plan to charm the other inmates with a twinkly smile works out...
