2010 French Open: Serena Williams Loses to Stosur, But Wins With Venus

2010 French Open: Serena
Williams Loses to Stosur, But Wins With Venus
Serena Williams hasn't won the French Open since 2002. Today, once again, Williams lost 6-2, 6-7 (2), 8-6 to Australian Samantha Stosur, who also spoiled four-time champ Justine Henin's roll in later rounds. Serena had a chance to win the match but squandered the last point, allowing Stosur to take advantage.

"It was my match -- and I lost it. That's what happened," Serena said. "I'm a little disappointed. I was definitely off. I was more or less upset that I was able to play so well up to this point. I couldn't believe, when it was over, that I played like that. If I played better for maybe two minutes, the result might have been different."

Her sister, Venus, was also ousted on Sunday night after being defeated by Nadia Petrova of Russia.

Don't fret though because the sisters are still competing. Right after Serena lost to Stosur, the Williams sisters headed to the doubles court and defeated Liezel Huber of the United States and Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 to reach the French Open women's double final. The sisters have 11 double titles together but haven't won the French Open since 1999. In this year's final they will face Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic and Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia.
