Jay-Z is suing an Alabama nightspot for playing his hit song with Rihanna without permission.
Alongside fellow artists Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi and No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani, Jay signed on to a lawsuit against A Spot Of Tea, a Mobile, AL tea house, for playing “Umbrella,” his 2007 hit song with Rihanna, without paying for the rights to do so.
According to the lawsuit agents working for ASCAP, the performing rights organization, observed the bar– which turns into a nightclub called Club Insanity– playing songs they are prohibited from playing, including “Umbrella,” “Rock With You” by Michael Jackson, “Erotica” by Madonna and “Mary Jane” by Rick James, among other songs.
In related news, Jay-Z may face legal action of his own, after workers from his 40/40 Club business franchise were caught on tape assaulting patrons.
According to the NJ Jackson News, approximately 12 employees of the Atlantic City club beat two men in a parking lot struggle. However, the Press Of Atlantic City reports that the employees were acting in self-defense after the two individuals were causing trouble inside the nightclub.
