KISS OF DEF...5 goal spurs ace Jermain Defoe celebtrae with the match-ball
JERMAIN DEFOE kisses the match-ball after his five-goal supershow and raves: "It was like a dream. Brilliant."
The England striker became the first Premier League player to hit five goals in one half as Spurs won 9-1 - their biggest-ever victory in the competition.
Defoe said: "The lads can't believe it and I looked over to Harry Redknapp and he looked shocked as well.
"The finishing and all the goals were unbelievable."
Defoe, 27, went to the top of the Premier League goal-charts with 11 as Spurs crushed Wigan to shoot into the history books:
Defoe became only the third Premier League player to grab five in a game.
His seven-minute hat-trick is the second fastest in Premier League history behind Robbie Fowler.
It was the second biggest win in Premier League history behind Manchester United's 9-0 thrashing of Ipswich in March 1995.
Defoe revealed he changed out of a new pair of green boots before the game after development coach Clive Allen told him not to wear them.
He said: "My sponsors had given me a pair of green boots and I tried them on before the game, but our coach Clive Allen said I couldn't wear them - so I changed them.
"I wore pinkish silver ones in the end... and I go and score five."
Boss Redknapp said: "There was some fantastic finishing from Jermain and some great wing play from Aaron Lennon.
"I don't see why Defoe can't be the top scorer in the Premier League this season."
Redknapp also spared a thought for Wigan boss Roberto Martinez.
He added: "As happy as I am inside with it all, I can imagine what he's going through."
Martinez said: "It was one of those freak games. It was too easy for them to score their first three goals."
