Becks is on a 2018 mission

DAVID BECKHAM will be wheeled out in South Africa to try to salvage England's 2018 World Cup bid.

FIFA bigwig Jack Warner blasted the bid this week at a conference in London.
The CONCACAF chief, who controls five votes on FIFA's 24-man executive committee, accused the "lightweight" English team of arrogance and failing to use big names like Beckham to support the campaign before the vote next year.

But yesterday it emerged LA Galaxy ace Beckham, who was part of London's successful 2012 Olympics campaign, will attend the World Cup draw in South Africa this December in a bid to woo potential voters.

Becks, 34, is expected to be loaned to AC Milan in January to remain in Fabio Capello's squad.

But Tim Leiweke, chief executive of AEG who own Galaxy, expects Beckham to then see out his US deal. He said: "We're not going to give him as much time off this time. He's going to have to earn his keep!"

Yet Leiweke still insists he is fully behind Beckham's dream of reaching his fourth World Cup.

He added: "We have a deep appreciation of what he is doing with his national team. I want him to know we'll support him."
