MICHAEL Jackson's family and friends were gathering last night to bid farewell to the King of Pop at a sunset funeral.Jacko was due to be laid to rest in the early hours of today UK time, more than two months after he died aged 50.
His body was to be entombed in a crypt at Forest Lawn Great Mausoleum in Los Angeles, surrounded by stars of Hollywood's golden age.
Jacko's family were due to be joined by celebs including Diana Ross, Brooke Shields and Macaulay Culkin.
His kids Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and Blanket, seven, were set to place personal notes in his gold coffin.
A source said: "It will be respectful and peaceful."
The send-off - amid a $1million security operation - was to be followed by a private wake at a Pasadena restaurant.
Cops are still probing Jacko's drug-related death.
